ABOUT ME

BA (hons), MA, UKCP registered

I have been working as a psychotherapist and counsellor for over 25 years. I am based in Frome, Somerset and work with people from Frome and surrounding areas. At the moment I am also working online due to Coronavirus which means I am able to offer sessions to clients further afield.

I work with adults, children and adolescents. I also work with parents and foster carers providing parenting support and I am an experienced parent infant psychotherapist.

As well as having a private practice, I have practised as a therapist and supervisor in both adult and young people's mental health services, schools and voluntary sector organisations. I have held clinical lead/clinical director roles in several organisations providing emotional and mental health support to both adults and young people including OXPIP, Capstone Foster Care, Relate, Action for Children and The Children's Society.

I have experience of working with a wide range of issues and difficulties that may be affecting people in their lives and preventing them from moving forward and achieving their potential.

I offer both short term and long term work.

COUNSELLING AND PSYCHOTHERAPY SERVICES

helping you move forward

ADULT COUNSELLING AND PSYCHOTHERAPY

People seek out counselling or psychotherapy for many different reasons. Often when they are at a point of possible transition in their lives; when they are not sure how to move forward or feel disorientated and uncertain. Sometimes they may have had difficult or upsetting experiences along the way, either recently or in the past; experiences that leave them doubting themselves or that make it hard to move forward with confidence.

I provide an empathic space where thoughts and feelings can be expressed safely. I help clients to explore past experiences as well as present difficulties and think about how the two can be intertwined. I offer an opportunity for exploring difficult issues and emotions. I have experience of working with a wide range of issues that may be affecting people's lives. I aim to support clients to move forward and work out where they feel changes need to happen and how to reach that place.

COUNSELLING AND PSYCHOTHERAPY WITH CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE

I work with young people of all ages. I have experience of supporting young people who are presenting with a range of issues including anxiety, depression, gender and sexuality, friendships and relationships, family issues, sepration and divorce, bereavement and loss, experiences of abuse, trauma, emotional dysregulation, eating issues, self harm and suicidal ideation.

I provide a safe space for talking and thinking together that is supportive and non-judgemental. It is a place for young people to bring the issues and problems that are worrying them to explore them confidentially. A place to learn to understand themselves better and work out how they want to engage with the world.

I also use art and play where needed to facilitate young people being able to express themselves when finding words is difficult. I can offer sessions in schools locally or after school where needed.

Currently I am working online.

PARENT THERAPY AND PARENT INFANT PSYCHOTHERAPY

I work with parents to support them to think about their child and about family life. Sessions can offer support where young people are experiencing issues that are difficult and can feel overwhelming for parents. It is a space to be reflective and think about yourself as a parent, your own experiences of being parented and how these may impact on your relationship with your child. I also work with children and parents together where this is helpful.

I am also an experienced parent infant psychotherapist. I work with parents pre and post birth and in the first years of your infant's life. Sessions can support you to adjust to your new role as a parent, reflect on changes in  family relationships, bond with your baby and to understand your own emotional ups and downs.

Often new parents can feel uncertain or overwhelmed. The birth of a baby can unexpectedly stir up feelings around past experiences including losses, bereavements and traumas. We can work together to help you feel positive about being a parent and feel confident in your ability to meet your infant's needs.

SUPERVISION AND CONSULTATION

I have been a counselling and psychotherapy supervisor for over 10 years. I am able to offer supervision to both qualified counsellors and psychotherapists and to trainees. I specialise in supervising child and adolescent therapists and counsellors.

I am an integrative psychotherapist who works in an attachment and trauma informed way. I also have training and experience in both psychodynamic and systemic theory and practise. I use the arts/play/sandtray in my practice as well as talking therapies.

I also offer consultations to other professionals such as teachers and social care workers either as a one off consultation or regular appointments.
